EV Charger Installation

Service Overview

What Is a Level 2 EV Charger and How Is It Installed?

A Level 2 EV charger is a 240-volt home charging station that delivers 20–30 miles of range per hour, compared to 3–5 miles per hour from a standard 120V household outlet. For an EV owner who drives the U.S. average of 37 miles per day, a Level 2 charger on a 40A dedicated circuit fully recharges most EVs in 6–8 hours overnight. Installation requires a licensed electrician to pull a new 240V circuit from your main panel (typically 40A or 50A), run conduit and correctly sized conductors to your garage or carport, and terminate on either a hardwired EVSE or a NEMA 14-50 receptacle. A permit is required in LA County and all incorporated cities including Palmdale, Lancaster, and Santa Clarita. B&M Electrical performs a full load calculation before every quote to confirm panel capacity, installs Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint Home Flex, Grizzl-E, JuiceBox, and all major EVSE brands.

  • Level 2 (240V) hardwired EV charger installation
  • NEMA 14-50 outlet installation for flexible charger compatibility
  • Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Enel X JuiceBox, Grizzl-E and more
  • Load calculation and panel capacity review before every quote
  • Detached garage, carport and outdoor pedestal installations

What You Get

What EV Charger Rebates Are Available in Southern California?

SCE's Charge Ready Home program offers rebates for qualified Level 2 EV charger installations, the amount varies by income tier and charger type but requires a licensed, permitted installation to qualify. The federal Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit (IRS Form 8911) allows homeowners to claim up to 30% of installation costs, with a maximum credit of $1,000 for residential installations, for qualified charging equipment placed in service through 2032. Some EV manufacturers also offer installation credits, typically $500–$750 off labor, when purchasing a networked charger through their dealer program. To qualify for all three programs simultaneously, the installation must be performed by a licensed contractor, pulled under permit, passed final inspection, and installed on a correctly sized dedicated circuit. B&M Electrical documents every installation with the permit number, inspection record, and contractor license information needed to submit rebate applications to SCE and the IRS.

  • Full permit handling through LA County or city jurisdiction
  • SCE Charge Ready Home rebate, permitted installation required
  • Circuit sized for 40A or 50A depending on charger and future needs
  • Trenching and conduit for detached garages or carports
  • Panel upgrade coordination if capacity is the limiting factor

I had a great experience with this electrical service. The team showed up on time, worked efficiently, and finished the job faster than I expected while still doing everything the right way. The price was very fair compared to other quotes I received, which made the whole experience even better because the quality of work was still top-notch. I also want to give a shout out to Barrett for being pr…

Barrett came out and gave me a good price on the work. They replaced my electrical panel and installed a disconnect for my AC unit. Then the next day, had a guy come out to patch up the wall and paint when the stucco dried. He also had the number of an AC technician for me to call to move a thermostat wire. Overall, great work and very communicative throughout the process.
