Service Overview

What Is a Dedicated Circuit and When Do You Need One?

A dedicated circuit is an electrical circuit that serves only one appliance or device, with its own breaker, its own conductor run, and no shared load from other outlets or fixtures. The NEC requires dedicated circuits for high-draw appliances including electric ranges (50A), electric dryers (30A), dishwashers (20A), HVAC condensers, tankless water heaters, and EV chargers (40A–50A). Sharing these loads on a general-purpose circuit causes nuisance breaker trips, voltage sag that shortens appliance life, and sustained heat in undersized conductors. B&M Electrical sizes every new circuit against the device's nameplate amperage and the NEC continuous-load rule (NEC 210.19 requires conductors rated at 125% of continuous loads), selects the correct conduit fill, and installs matching AFCI or GFCI protection as required by the California Electrical Code for the circuit's specific location, kitchen, bathroom, garage, outdoor, or general living space.

  • Dedicated 120V and 220V circuits for HVAC, ranges, dryers and specialized equipment
  • Level 2 EV charger installation, NEMA 14-50 and hardwired 40A–60A
  • Correctly sized conductors, conduit and breaker capacity for every load
  • Flicker-free power designed for long-term safety and predictable performance
  • Permit pulling, utility coordination and clean inspection pass

What You Get

When Do You Need a Sub-Panel Instead of a Full Panel Upgrade?

A sub-panel is a secondary load center fed from your main panel that distributes power to a specific area, a detached garage, workshop, ADU, pool equipment zone, or remote kitchen. The key advantage over running individual circuits from the main panel is voltage drop: long conductor runs lose voltage proportionally to distance and load, and a correctly sized sub-panel feeder keeps voltage within the NEC-recommended ±5% tolerance at the breakers serving your equipment. Sub-panels are the right solution when you need three or more circuits in one location more than 50–75 feet from your main panel, when you're adding a structure that needs its own disconnect, or when your main panel is full but your service amperage has unused headroom. B&M Electrical calculates the correct feeder conductor size for voltage drop, installs a grounding electrode system at the sub-panel structure, and handles the permit and final inspection.

  • Rewiring for room additions, ADUs, garage conversions and office build-outs
  • 100-amp to 200-amp main service & meter panel upgrades
  • Sub-panel installation for detached garages, shops, pools and ADUs
  • Weather-resistant outdoor, workshop and landscape circuits
  • Tamper-resistant, GFCI/AFCI-protected receptacles where code requires
  • Permit handling and inspection sign-off across LA County

I had a great experience with this electrical service. The team showed up on time, worked efficiently, and finished the job faster than I expected while still doing everything the right way. The price was very fair compared to other quotes I received, which made the whole experience even better because the quality of work was still top-notch. I also want to give a shout out to Barrett for being pr…

Barrett came out and gave me a good price on the work. They replaced my electrical panel and installed a disconnect for my AC unit. Then the next day, had a guy come out to patch up the wall and paint when the stucco dried. He also had the number of an AC technician for me to call to move a thermostat wire. Overall, great work and very communicative throughout the process.
